From IT Support Technician to Student Information System Administrator: My Journey with Anthology Student
Working in higher education technology is a unique challenge that requires both technical expertise and creative problem-solving. My journey at Smith Chason College has been an exciting evolution—from starting as an IT Support Technician to being promoted to Student Information System (SIS) Administrator, specifically working with Anthology Student.
In my current role, I’ve found that success isn’t just about resolving issues as they arise—it’s about thinking outside the box and improving processes to prevent future problems while enhancing the student and administrative experience.
Navigating Challenges During Implementation
Implementing and maintaining a comprehensive SIS like Anthology Student comes with its share of challenges. Collaborating with department team leads, training users to test and validate data, and creating effective workflows and guides has been a core part of my role.
Each day involves problem-solving that requires both technical knowledge and interpersonal collaboration. Discussing current system issues, evaluating integrations, and strategizing for future improvements has allowed me to work closely with leadership to see projects through to completion. The goal is always to configure the system accurately, align it with departmental needs, and train users to leverage the system efficiently.
Leveraging AI: The Anthology Student Product Guide
One of the most innovative features I’ve embraced in Anthology Student is the AI Product Guide, Help AI. Announced at the July 2025 conference, this tool has completely transformed the way I interact with the system. By combining the extensive Anthology knowledge base with AI, Help AI provides clear, actionable guidance for administrators and users alike.
I have relied on Help AI extensively to:
- Build job aids for staff and faculty
- Locate and interpret reports across the system
- Configure system components in an understandable, step-by-step manner
