Tech Tip: How to Watch YouTube in Picture-in-Picture on Mac and Windows

YOUTUBE PICTURE-IN-PICTURE MODE

Sometimes you want to watch YouTube while also getting work done, browsing the web, or checking emails. That’s where Picture-in-Picture (PiP) comes in handy. PiP lets you shrink a YouTube video into a small floating window that stays on top of your other apps, so you can multitask without missing a moment.

Here’s how to do it on both Mac and Windows:

On Mac: Use the URL Bar Sound Icon

  1. Start playing any YouTube video.
  2. Look at the right side of your browser’s URL bar (next to the address).
  3. You’ll see a sound/volume icon. Right-click on it.
  4. Choose “Enter Picture in Picture.”
  5. Your video will pop out into a resizable mini player that floats above your windows.

👉 Tip: You can move the mini player around the screen and resize it to fit your workflow.

On Windows: Right-Click the Video

  1. Start playing a YouTube video.
  2. Right-click on the video once—you’ll see YouTube’s usual menu.
  3. Right-click again in the same spot.
  4. This brings up your browser’s native menu with the Picture-in-Picture option.
  5. Click it, and your video will shrink into a floating window.

👉 Tip: The PiP window stays on top, so you can keep working, gaming, or browsing while the video plays in the corner.

Why Use Picture-in-Picture?

  • Multitask more efficiently—take notes, answer emails, or browse the web while watching.
  • Keep tutorials and how-to videos visible while following along.
  • Stay entertained with music videos, live streams, or podcasts in the corner of your screen.

With this simple trick, you can watch YouTube anywhere, anytime, without losing focus on what you’re doing.
